Garden Chairs

Garden chairs for every terrace — from balcony chair to designer model

Sitting outside, relaxing, having a coffee, enjoying the evenings — that only works if the chair is right. Whether it's a large terrace, a small balcony, or a covered lounge: garden chairs come in so many variations that there's a suitable solution for every situation. Here you'll find a curated selection of weather-resistant models that hold their own in both design and function.

Which material suits your outdoor space?

The material determines the maintenance required, longevity, and look — and often your satisfaction a few years down the line.

Aluminium is the classic choice for garden chairs that stand outdoors permanently: lightweight, rust-free, stable, and easy to care for. A wet spring or a hot summer won't bother aluminium chairs at all. Models with a matte powder-coated finish also look high-quality and are more scratch-resistant than bare metal.

Teak brings a warm wood look to the garden and develops a natural silver patina over time. This tropical hardwood is naturally oil-rich and resists moisture exceptionally well — provided you treat it once a season with teak oil.

Polyrattan impresses with the look of real wickerwork, without the intensive upkeep. The synthetic material is UV-stable, splinter-free, and retains its shape even in rain. Particularly popular for lounge chairs and terrace sets.

Plastic (PP/recycled) is the lightest and most affordable option. Stackable plastic chairs are standard in the hospitality sector — and also practical in a private garden when space is tight or guests are coming.

Stackable, foldable, or fixed — what do you actually need?

Before you buy, it's worth a brief thought about storage.

Stackable garden chairs are the space-saving solution par excellence. Four to eight chairs stacked take up barely more room than a single one. Ideal for smaller balconies or when you're using seasonal storage space in the cellar.

Foldable garden chairs are even more compact: folded up and leaning against the wall, they're ready for unexpected guests. Many models are also light enough to carry anywhere — onto the lawn, to the fire pit, up to the roof terrace.

Fixed models with or without armrests prioritise comfort and looks. A garden chair with armrests invites you to sit for longer and, paired with a matching garden table, immediately creates a fully furnished outdoor setting.

Garden chairs and the Swiss winter: what you should know about storage

Anyone with a garden in Switzerland knows the issue: snow, frost, and moisture in winter put even robust outdoor furniture to the test.

Aluminium and polyrattan can generally stay outside year-round — but it is still worth covering them with breathable protective covers so that dirt, moss, and UV radiation do less damage in winter. Teak chairs overwinter best in a dry place, such as the cellar or garage. Plastic chairs should not be left outside in heavy frost, as the material can become more brittle in extreme cold.

General rule: stackable and foldable models pay off doubly in the Swiss climate — they can be put away quickly and take up very little space.

Designer garden chairs: style belongs outdoors too

Why shouldn't garden chairs look just as good as the chairs in the living room? Designer models for outdoor use combine sophisticated design with outdoor-suitable materials. Clean lines, high-quality finishes, and considered ergonomics — none of that is at odds with weather-resistance.

Particularly popular: aluminium chairs in matte colours (anthracite, sand grey, white) that blend seamlessly into modern terrace designs. Or sculptural polyrattan lounge chairs that turn the outdoor space into an extension of the living room.
